This design project is special and near and dear to my heart. Sometimes you meet clients, you share experiences with them, and then they become friends! This was the case with the Payette family.

The project began when Louise Payette visited the store with her daughter to look for dining room furniture. She had started renovating the kitchen and needed some guidance on the dining table’s colours and shape. Soon after, the project evolved into a living and dining room makeover. In the end, we redesigned the whole main floor!

Before the Makeover

The dining room was dated with old dining room furniture and original hardwood floors.

The Payette’s recently painted the house and added brand new hardwood flooring.

The living room had dark brown curtains an old sofa, a chair and some tables. (Apologies for the blurry photo but you get the idea)

What were the Client’s Wishes for the Living and Dining Room?

The clients used the room daily, so they wanted to create a relaxing and inviting environment. They didn’t want to go contemporary per se but wished for a stylish classic look.

Design Budget/ Cost

$10,000 – $20,000

How Will the Rooms be Used?

The family wishes to use the living room every day to sit, relax and maybe read a book.

They will use the dining room for family meals, entertainment and social gatherings.

The Designer’s Concept & Vision

The beautiful all-white and textured finishes the Payette’s chose for the kitchen inspired me. I didn’t want to create a dramatic look, but a soft and elegant design instead.

The moment Louise said timeless, I knew I was going to work with neutrals. And it had to be light neutral because the rooms aren’t very big!

The “After” Result for the Living and Dining Room Makeover

The final result was an elegant living/dining room space with lots of soft neutrals and elegant patterns. The use of timeless elements dominated the concept. For example, we picked a rug with a traditional pattern and contemporary colours—we use the same idea for the chair and ottoman prints. We repeated patterns in the dining chair’s back to create a continuity between the two spaces.

The fireplace wood picked up the colour of the dining room table nicely. We worked with minimalistic glass tables with a touch of a classic wrought iron element.

Finally, to decorate the walls, we used mirrors, wall art and artwork to give each area a unique look.

Overall, the colour combination looked elegant together and provided a nice flow between the different elements.

The Client’s Reaction to the Makeover

From the first visit to our home up to the end of the project, Dea was totally amazing! We wanted our rooms to feel welcoming, calm and at the same time stylish; and this is exactly what Dea delivered. She listened to what we wanted, asked questions and the final results reflect her expertise.

She incorporated fun items that we never would’ve chosen ourselves and the rooms look amazing. Dea is extremely talented and very passionate about her work. She is definitely having FUN designing! Looking forward to another project with Dea.
