For over 25 years, La-Z-Boy Ottawa, Gatineau & Kingston has been more than just a destination for quality furniture. As a proudly Canadian-owned business, we believe comfort goes beyond living rooms; it extends into the communities we serve. From furnishing hospital spaces to recognizing local heroes, our mission is to bring comfort, care, and connection to those around us.
Our involvement with local organizations such as the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), Ronald McDonald House, Move 100.3, Bell Media, and several non-profits across Eastern Ontario shows that our impact reaches far beyond our showrooms. We are proud to call this region home, and we take seriously our responsibility to help it thrive.

La-Z-Boy Ottawa, Gatineau & Kingston is a locally owned and operated business that has proudly served Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec since 1998. In 2011, local owners James and David Maxwell expanded the business to five locations, employing more than 100 Canadian families across sales, warehousing, customer service, and delivery teams.
“When clients shop with us, they’re not just purchasing furniture; they’re supporting local jobs, hospitals, and causes that matter to our communities,” says Ron Mathurin, President of La-Z-Boy Home Furnishings Ottawa, Gatineau & Kingston.
Our goal has always been to create “Customers for Life”, a philosophy that extends to our community involvement. With roughly 70% of our revenue reinvested in Canada, each purchase made locally helps sustain regional employment, small business partnerships, and charitable efforts across Ottawa, Gatineau, and Kingston.

At La-Z-Boy, our charitable giving is built on three key pillars: Health, Youth, and Housing. Each represents an area of need where we can make a meaningful difference.
In addition, every La-Z-Boy showroom has its own local donation budget, allowing store managers to respond directly to community needs. This flexibility ensures that our giving remains personal, timely, and impactful, reaching the people and programs that matter most to each area we serve.
One of our most recognized community partnerships is with the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). For more than two decades, we’ve furnished the Minto Dream of a Lifetime Home, a key component of CHEO’s annual lottery that raises funds for pediatric care and medical research.
Each year, the Dream Home showcases the best in local design and craftsmanship. In 2025, the featured home, The Sterling, was designed by Tanner Vine and furnished by La-Z-Boy Ottawa, Gatineau & Kingston.
Every room features carefully selected pieces that reflect modern comfort and timeless quality, helping to inspire thousands of visitors while supporting an incredible cause.

Beyond patient spaces, we are passionate about improving the environments where healthcare professionals work and rest. This year, La-Z-Boy donated furniture to both CHEO’s respiratory therapist breakroom and the ICU nurses’ lounge, offering renewed comfort for the staff who provide critical care every day.
Respiratory therapist Desiree Warmington shared her appreciation, “The recliners given from La-Z-Boy are relieving to sit on after long days at work. Even if it’s just for 20 minutes, it makes a huge difference.”
By transforming these spaces with high-quality recliners, sofas, and tables, we aimed to give hospital staff a chance to relax and recharge. These contributions represent more than furniture; they are gestures of gratitude for those who devote their lives to others.

In 2025, two winners have already been recognized, with a third honoree scheduled for later this year. The most recent award went to Melanie Guigue, who received a $5,000 La-Z-Boy gift card for her dedication to helping others in Ottawa.
The Community Hero Award is more than a recognition program. It is a reminder that the strength of a community lies in its people. Through our partnership with Bell Media, we use local media platforms to spotlight these stories, encouraging others to give back in their own ways.
Last but not least, we have to acknowledge our partnership with Bell Media, which plays a crucial role in promoting our community initiatives. Through media collaborations, we amplify our efforts and reach a broader audience, encouraging more community support and engagement.
Because of our long partnership with them, some of our La-Z-Boy interior designers came together to create a room for guests to sit in while waiting to go live on air with CTV News. This La-Z-Boy Lounge was never meant to happen, but CTV was looking to revamp it, and our interior designers felt inspired.
Bell Media’s platforms help us share the stories of our partnerships and the positive impacts we make in the community.

While we’d love to list all of our charitable instances in one article, our list would be too long. However, we cannot end without mentioning some other notable events that we have taken part in and continue to make an impact with our outreach.
Hospice Care: Hospice Care Canada builds and renovates facilities throughout Ottawa, Gatineau and Kingston. La-Z-Boy provides a 40% contribution of the value of the furniture needed and continues to sponsor their Homes for the Holiday charity event every holiday season.
Kiwanis: Another yearly contribution, La-Z-Boy offers committee involvement, volunteer efforts, and participation in their Annual Bed Race. This year, the Accora Village Kiwanis Bed Race raised over $25,000 for children’s youth and the Queensway Carleton Hospital.
Queensway Carleton Hospital: our collaboration with the foundation supported a few fundraising initiatives for their Acute Care of the Elderly Unit.
Children at Risk: Contributed a $500 La-Z-Boy gift card to their community raffle. This long-running organization supports families raising children diagnosed with autism in the Ottawa region. By providing prizes that encourage community participation, La-Z-Boy helps strengthen awareness and fund critical programming for children with developmental challenges.
Ronald McDonald House: Continued annual furniture donations, helping families with children receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. Each contribution ensures these families have a comfortable and supportive space to stay close to their loved ones during difficult times. Our team works closely with Ronald McDonald House Charities to maintain a warm, home-like atmosphere that reflects the comfort and care at the heart of La-Z-Boy’s mission.
La-Z-Boy remains committed to enriching the Ottawa, Gatineau and Kingston communities through continuous support and active involvement in local initiatives. Whether it’s through our furniture donations or partnerships, we aim to make a lasting positive impact.
