Every year, the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and Minto Communities partner up for the better of the community to bring the anticipated dream home that everyone wants to win.

This year, for their milestone 25th anniversary working together, Minto and CHEO released The Sterling, the most design-forward home anyone has seen thus far.

This year’s Minto Dream Home includes winnings like $100,000 in cash, a 2025 Mercedes Benz GLC 300 4MATIC SUV, 50 gas cards of $100 from W. O. Stinson & Son,  bi-weekly cleaning for a year from ATC Cleaning, a $5,000 Farm Boy gift card, moving services from Adam's Moving, legal services from Mann Lawyers and, of course, the Minto Dream Home, fully furnished by La-Z-Boy.

With millions of dollars worth of winnings, all proceeds raised by the community go towards the CHEO hospital, helping sick kids in the area get the treatment they need, across all departments.

La-Z-Boy Ottawa, Gatineau and Kingston is once again incredibly thankful and honoured to be part of this inspirational local cause. Now that the doors are open as of today, we thought it would be appropriate to shed some light on how La-Z-Boy furnished the home, as well as the inspiration behind the home's design.

Stick around to find out more about this year’s designer, Tanner Vine, and how you can enter the draw and contribute to the cause.

This Year's Minto Dream Home

This year’s Minto Dream Home, titled The Sterling, commemorates the 25th anniversary fittingly, since it is considered the Silver Edition Home. “Sterling silver is the traditional gift for 25th anniversaries, so the name is only fitting,” says Minto, about this year’s home.

Situated in the continuously growing Mahogany, Manotick Community, with other past dream homes, this year’s home promises to be the most lavish home yet.

Built on a 5,360-square-foot lot, The Sterling stands tall, with a slightly above-ground basement. It is also built on a grand corner lot with many views inside the home of the grand pond beside the home.

Inside and out, you will notice many Art Deco-inspired elements, heavily taken from 1920’s era interiors, according to interior designer Tanner Vine. From the patterned flooring in the kitchen, the curved arches in the entrance, and the patterned wallpaper in some rooms, there is something to look forward to in every room.

In addition to the luxurious look of the inside, the home includes convenient accessibility, with a complete primary sweet, bathroom and washer/dryer all on the first floor. All of the furniture in the home is also fully furnished by La-Z-Boy.

Lastly, the Sterling is also energy conscious, promoting sustainability with solar panels on the roof, hybrid heating, an air source heat pump water heater and a water-permeable driveway.

Design of the Minto Dream Home

Similar to The Oasis, the 2025 Minto Dream Home takes on a minimalist approach to Furnishing, with more of an emphasis on interior structural appearances. While The Oasis had many naturalistic elements to the modern organic theme, the Sterling has interesting architectural styles that empower the home in a tasteful way.

Tanner Vine takes over for this year’s dream home, making it the second time he has helped design a dream home.

Interior Design Highlights

Tanner says the Art Deco-inspired design is everywhere in the home, but doesn’t overwhelm guests either. While open concept homes are still very popular, there is a slight shift to divided spaces again, but not too divided. This is shown in the first level of the home.

“The main inspiration for this home was the 1920s and 1930s era of furniture and design,” Tanner says. “We thought, keep it minimal, but also incorporate patterns throughout the home that aren’t too overwhelming for people.”

According to Tanner, the home was built with the intention of intergenerational families to live in the same home, with both levels having the same amenities. Because of this, the home features not just one but two primary bedrooms!

The basement includes a speakeasy-inspired vibe, with a working bar for those looking to host parties, as well as a theatre room with an immaculate modular sectional configured to accommodate multiple guests at once!

Tanner highlights a couple of rooms he’s proud of. Just like his previous home, the living room and kitchen are both open concept spaces, with the floors creating the distinction between them.

Inside the living area is the Emric Sectional that grounds the space, as well as oversized windows to bring in a soft touch to the area.

Tanner also highlights the kitchen, which features custom counterware, complemented by a dining area that has windows on three sides to enjoy the views of the green space outside.

Last but not least, the upstairs primary bedroom is the room where Tanner’s favourite furniture piece resides. The Wilmette Sofa is decorated in an eye-turning red velvet fabric, with the back facing the queen-sized bed. The primary ensuite also features a his and hers sink setup, as well as a vanity at the end of the room.

More About Interior Designer Tanner Vine

This year marks the second year that Tanner Vine Interiors and Minto Communities have partnered up to create the Minto Dream Home.

Tanner has been an interior designer for almost 20 years, studying in Montreal in his early years and slowly moving into residential design for kitchens and bathrooms.

“Last year was the first time I’ve ever designed a home on a large platform like this, so it was something I had never done before,” he says.

While the US tariffs greatly plagued the industry, Tanner didn’t let this ruin his vision for this year's home. “This year we faced some issues that were beyond our control, but the inspiration for the home came to me when I went to New York in November last year, and that’s where you tend to see the art deco hotels and boutiques thrive. I really wanted to bring a little bit of that into the home this year while being conscious of the budget.”

With the Minto Dream Home being the biggest project he’s done in his career, Tanner felt like he shouldn’t stay true to himself and pick things in the home that interested his personal design style.

Tanner felt like the process of picking La-Z-Boy products was very smooth. Although he wasn’t able to see everything he wanted in the showroom in person, the catalogue of furniture made him feel inspired to choose modern and simple products that would complement the overall idea of the home.

Other than the tariffs being an issue this year, Tanner said there were slight issues with certain products, and they just weren’t able to get them on time. There was also a wallpaper that appeared in one of the bathrooms that wasn’t supposed to be there. But he mentioned it being a pleasant accident, since the wallpaper creates some visual interest in the space he didn’t think of.

Why Does the Minto Dream Home Matter in the Ottawa Community?

Minto describes this year’s home as “the representation of a legacy between Minto Communities and the CHEO Foundation.” Being the 25th year of the partnership, this year proves now more than ever how important it is for the project to remain strong within the community.

The partnership began when Robert Greenberg wanted to bring his father’s dream of supporting the local children’s hospital and the local community. Gilbert Greenberg, Robert’s father, was one of the founding members of the Minto group, and Robert was Minto’s Executive Vice President when the dream home project was being conceived.

25 years later, in its silver edition, Robert Greenberg is now a member of the Business Advisory Committee and still holds the dream home project close to his heart.

With so many families being affected by tough decisions for their sick children every year, the CHEO Dream Home touches the hearts of many in the community.

Although there has been some relief from the strenuous years of the pandemic, there are still many obstacles that hospitals face every day. Physician shortages are at an all-time high, and hospital employee burnout is affecting a lot of healthcare workers. This year, tariffs also played a factor in hospital resources like life-saving medication and equipment.

"Every ticket purchase has a positive impact on the lives of the children, youth and families that rely on CHEO for care and support," said CHEO Foundation president and CEO, Steve Read.

With such a worthy cause, Tanner hopes to come back next year and help contribute his work to a compassionate and heartfelt project.

La-Z-Boy Ottawa, Gatineau & Kingston's Involvement

Run by the Maxwell family, La-Z-Boy is a proud main sponsor of the Minto Dream Home. Furnishing these homes since its inception, we hope to continue contributing to such a worthy cause for many years to come.

Cecile Panet-Raymond, La-Z-Boy Ottawa, Gatineau & Kingston’s Merchandising Director, has worked on and represented this project for a solid 15 years. Each year, Cecile assists and works closely with the interior designer and creates the Dream Home they envision.

Since this was Tanner’s second year working with Minto and La-Z-Boy, Cecile felt like he was very organized and thorough from the very beginning. “Tanner is a very organized designer with exquisite taste, making the process very smooth, pleasant and inspiring,” she says.

Cecile also ensures that all products are available to order and that everything stays on budget for both parties. Planning for each Dream Home starts as soon as the last home is launched to the public.

When it comes to Cecile’s favourite furniture item in the home, she mentions the Tahoe Sectional in the basement, which makes its first appearance in a Minto Dream Home. “The Tahoe Sectional in the basement in luxe velvet is one of my favourite pieces,” she says.
