Buying furniture is a big investment, and more Canadians are paying attention to where their furniture is made. A common question we hear at La-Z-Boy Ottawa, Gatineau, and Kingston is whether La-Z-Boy furniture is made in Canada, the United States, or overseas.
While La-Z-Boy is a globally recognized brand, its manufacturing approach is more localized than many people expect. Understanding where La-Z-Boy furniture is made can help you feel confident about quality, craftsmanship, and the impact of your purchase.
In this article, we answer the question directly and explain how La-Z-Boy balances North American manufacturing with a global supply chain, all while remaining a proudly Canadian-operated dealer.

La-Z-Boy was founded in 1928 and is headquartered in Monroe, Michigan, where the brand’s legacy of comfort and craftsmanship began. Unlike many furniture companies that moved large portions of production overseas during the 2008 economic downturn, La-Z-Boy continued to invest in North American manufacturing facilities.
David Maxwell, owner of La-Z-Boy Ottawa, Gatineau, and Kingston, explains, “It’s important for customers to know that while La-Z-Boy is a global brand, our local stores employ Canadians only. The furniture we sell is built in North America and the revenue stays in Canada, supporting our communities.”

La-Z-Boy’s decision to maintain manufacturing in North America is rooted in quality control, craftsmanship, and consistency. Producing furniture closer to its primary markets allows La-Z-Boy to closely monitor materials, construction methods, and performance standards.
Skilled workers in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico cut, sew, upholster, and assemble each piece using a combination of technology and hands-on craftsmanship. While automation supports efficiency, many steps in the process still rely on trained specialists to ensure comfort, durability, and fit.
This approach helps La-Z-Boy maintain the comfort and reliability it is known for, especially in products like recliners, sofas, and sectionals that are used daily.
Like most furniture manufacturers, La-Z-Boy uses a global supply chain for raw materials, even though final assembly happens in North America. Fabrics, leathers, mechanisms, motors, and hardware may be sourced from different regions depending on availability and performance standards.
For example, fabric may be produced overseas, shipped to a North American facility for cutting and sewing, and then assembled into finished furniture at a plant in the United States or Mexico. Each stage is designed to balance material quality with efficient production.
While some specialty or European-inspired collections may come from overseas facilities, La-Z-Boy Ottawa, Gatineau, and Kingston do not source furniture manufactured in China.
Final assembly is where La-Z-Boy’s quality standards are fully enforced. At North American plants, teams assemble hardwood frames, install cushioning, upholster pieces, and test reclining and power mechanisms.
Once furniture arrives at La-Z-Boy Ottawa, Gatineau, or Kingston, it undergoes additional inspection and testing before delivery. This extra step ensures that power functions work properly and that upholstery meets expectations before it enters a customer’s home.
David Maxwell notes, “Quality checks happen at multiple points. By the time furniture reaches our customers, it has been inspected more than once.”
For 25 years, La-Z-Boy Ottawa, Gatineau and Kingston have been committed to providing high-quality, North American-made furniture to local customers. Unlike many retailers that rely on overseas production, La-Z-Boy exclusively manufactures its furniture in the U.S., Mexico, and Asia, ensuring superior craftsmanship, durability, and comfort.
