La-Z-Boy power furniture comes with various controls depending on the model and features. Here’s a breakdown of how to use the different types of power controls available on our recliners, sofas, and lift chairs.
Functionality:
Power recliners and sofas that feature a simple 2-button control panel are all featured in the Duo Collection or on High-Leg Recliners. To recline, press and hold the front button; to return to an upright position, press and hold the back button. The 2-button system also includes a USB port for convenient charging.
Functionality:
Newer models feature one-touch operation, making it even easier to control. A quick press allows the legrest and backrest to fully extend or retract without holding the button down. Simply tap to pause or stop the motion. This functionality reduces energy usage in standby mode, which is perfect if you opt for a battery pack.
Functionality:
Our latest Zero Gravity Recliners are also equipped with a 2-button control panel, with Matthew noting similarities between the two. "The Zero Gravity Recliners allow you to fully recline at an 180-degree angle," he says. What's more, these new controls also come with a USB-C outlet, allowing you to charge anything universally now.

While some power rocker or wall recliners come with simply 3 power controls, recliners with USB ports and memory settings now start with a 4 button power control. These controls allow for independent adjustment of the backrest, legrest, headrest, and lumbar support, ensuring that each aspect of your recliner can be fine-tuned to suit your individual needs.
The 4-button toggle switch also includes memory settings, which allow you to save your favourite reclining positions for easy access. Additionally, the "home" button quickly resets the recliner to its default sitting position, making it simple to transition between relaxation and upright modes.
Matthew says that if you're considering a reclining loveseat or sofa from La-Z-Boy, it is important to note that some models do not come with a memory button, as listed above. Make sure to ask your sales consultant if the model you're interested in has memory settings.
Functionality:
Operating the same way as the 4-button mounted control panel, La-Z-Boy offers a wireless remote as an upgrade for power furniture with adjustable headrests and lumbar support. The remote also offers independent control of the legrest, backrest, and lumbar, with memory and home buttons for ease of use.
A built-in cavity on the side of the chair securely holds the wireless remote, keeping it within easy reach.
Additionally, a “find me” feature, located in the built-in cavity, helps you locate the remote when it’s misplaced. There is also a Do Not Disturb switch on the side panel that can stop the remote from involuntarily changing positions when in an ideal spot.
La-Z-Boy’s lift chairs are the best recliners for seniors needing assistance getting up from a seated position. These lift chairs are tiered into Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum series products.
Each chair features a tethered remote that operates both reclining and lifting functions, which is the base functionality of a lift chair. Models going further than Bronze have additional controls for independent back and leg adjustments.
Matthew also notes that some of our smaller recliners, like the Collage and the Vail are also able to have the option for a tethered remote.
La-Z-Boy recliner with heat and massage functionality is exclusive to the Gold series lift recliners, which Matthew states is currently only included in the Clayton model. With options for various massage types and heat levels, this feature is perfect for relieving tension in the lumbar area.
To activate seat heat, press and hold the right side of the HEAT button, cycling through low (amber), high (red), and off (no light). For back heat, follow the same steps on the left side of the HEAT button.
For massage, press the left side of the massage button to choose constant, wave, or pulse modes, while the right side adjusts intensity from low to high, indicated by green, amber, and red lights respectively.
How Do I Sync My Power Furniture to the Wireless Remote?
To sync your power furniture with the wireless remote, first ensure the 'do not disturb' button is off. Then, remove the batteries from both the remote and the power supply, and unplug the chair for 10 seconds.
Afterward, replace the batteries, plug the unit back in, and press the ‘find me’ button on the chair. Finally, use a paperclip to press the reset button inside the remote's battery compartment. You’ll hear three beeps, indicating a successful pairing.
Can I upgrade my La-Z-Boy recliner to include heat and massage?
Unfortunately, only one power lift recliner offers a heat and massage upgrade. As mentioned before, this product is called the Clayton, which you can learn about in this review article.
What if I lose my wireless remote?
If you misplace your wireless remote, use the “find me” button on the side of the chair. The remote will emit an LED light and a beeping sound, making it easier to locate.
Is It Possible to Order a Custom Panel on the Left Side?
For all you left-handed users, power controls on individual La-Z-Boy recliners can be built on the left side, at an extra $90 from the starting price.
