Accessibility Policy

Purpose

La-Z-Boy Home Furnishings of Eastern Ontario and Western Québec is committed to meeting the accessibility needs of persons with disabilities in a timely manner and in a way that respects their dignity, independence, integration, and equal opportunity. This policy outlines how we achieve compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the Ontario Human Rights Code.

Scope

This policy applies to all  La-Z-Boy Home Furnishings of Eastern Ontario and Western Québec employees, contractors, and any third parties acting on our behalf. It covers all customer-facing services, online platforms, and internal operations.

Our Commitments

  • Provide goods, services, and facilities that are accessible to all customers.
  • Communicate with people with disabilities in ways that consider their disability.
  • Offer accessible formats and communication support upon request.
  • Ensure our websites and digital content meet WCAG 2.0 Level AA standards.
  • Train employees on Ontario’s accessibility laws and human rights obligations.
  • Remove and prevent barriers to accessibility in our workplace and customer experience, including accommodations during recruitment and career development.
  • Ensure our facilities meet accessible public-space design requirements.
  • Document all feedback received and take appropriate action. Documentation is available upon request.

Assistive Devices and Service Animals

We welcome the use of assistive devices and service animals in all public areas of our facilities.

Support Persons

A person with a disability who is accompanied by a support person will be allowed to have that person accompany them in all public areas.

Notice of Temporary Disruptions

In the event of a planned or unexpected disruption to services or facilities for customers with disabilities,  La-Z-Boy Home Furnishings of Eastern Ontario and Western Québec will notify customers promptly through signage, our website, and customer service channels. The notice will include the reason for the disruption, expected duration, and alternative services available.

Training

We provide training to employees, contractors, and anyone involved in developing or delivering our goods and services. Training includes:

  • Purpose of the AODA and Ontario Human Rights Code.
  • Customer service standards and accessibility best practices.
  • How to interact with people with various types of disabilities.
  • The purpose of the AODA and the requirements of the Integrated Accessibility standards (IAS);
  • The Human Rights Code as it pertains to persons with disabilities;
  • Our accessibility policies;
  • How to interact and communicate with people who have various disabilities;
  • How to interact with people with disabilities using assistive devices or requiring a service animal or a support person;
  • How to use equipment or devices available to help provide goods or services to people with disabilities; 
  • What to do if a person with a disability is having difficulty in accessing our goods or services.

Accessible Communication

Upon request, La-Z-Boy Home Furnishings of Eastern Ontario and Western Québec will provide accessible formats and communication supports for publicly available information in a timely manner, at no additional cost.

Accessibility in Employment:

LZB is committed to accessibility throughout our employment practices, including recruitment, hiring, and workplace accommodation. We provide accessible and barrier-free employment opportunities and support our employees with disabilities through appropriate workplace accommodations.

During our recruitment process, we notify job applicants that accommodations are available for candidates with disabilities during the assessment and selection process. We inform successful candidates about our policies for accommodating employees with disabilities and provide accessible formats and communication support as needed.

We work with employees to develop individualized workplace emergency response plans when required and ensure that accessibility needs are considered in performance management, career development, and redeployment processes.

Design of Public Spaces

LZB will comply with the Design of Public Spaces Standards under the AODA for all newly constructed and redeveloped public spaces. This includes meeting accessibility requirements for parking areas, exterior paths of travel, service counters, fixed queuing guides, waiting areas, and outdoor public use areas where applicable.
