Are you looking for something that fills up a lot of space for yourself and guests?
If you're someone who loves having guests over for dinner parties and game nights, you might feel inclined to have the option for your friends and family to sleep over. But you just don’t have another bedroom to accommodate them.
If you’re feeling this way, don’t worry. There are plenty of people who feel the same way as you. But there is a simple solution to this, and it combines the use of a living room and bedroom with a stylish approach.
Introducing the Olson, the latest furniture family released on our floors. These comfortable stationary furniture pieces from La-Z-Boy offer you the ability to use them as either a sofa or a pull-out couch for anyone.
But, how does the Olson stand out from other furniture products at La-Z-Boy, and is this the right furniture family for you?
In This Article…
Known as a plush and inviting classic, this broad-sized furniture family features flared rolled arms, decorative wood legs, and welt trim on the arm posts.
The Olson also features semi-attached backs with airy blown fibre fill and supportive loose seat cushions with crisp box-border tailoring for a clean and casual look.
Although Olson is known as a traditionally styled furniture family, it has some similarities to an existing furniture frame called the Collins.
While this furniture frame does not come in a chair and a half, it still has many features close to this newer furniture family, including the rolled arms, decorative legs and seat style. The main difference is the seat depth, which is much deeper than the Collins.
To learn more about the Collins Sofa, take a look at this article.
The Olson is also beneficial for taller users, being able to seat comfortably those between the heights of 5’10” and up. Even though this is the case, it can also seat shorter users comfortably.
While your height can be a considerable factor, it is important to note that height guidelines are NOT set in stone. The way you sit in a furniture item can drastically affect how someone might find a seat comfortable.
This is why we highly recommend coming in-store and taking a sit test to determine if the Olson is right for your unique body type. To learn more, take a look at our article How to Find the Right Sofa Size For You?

When looking at Olson’s options and upgrades, there are plenty to choose from. It is important to remember that all options and upgrades come at an additional cost, meaning the price of your Olson furniture is subject to increase.
When selecting the fabric or leather for your Olson furniture, the cost will vary based on the grade you choose. Select fabrics will not affect the starting price of your furniture, but anything beyond that will.
This includes select leather and anything inside our leather selections at La-Z-Boy.
For a comprehensive understanding of La-Z-Boy's upholstery grades, check out this article.
*Please note that this article's leather or fabric options may be discontinued or unavailable without prior notice. We recommend contacting your local Ottawa, Gatineau or Kingston La-Z-Boy store by phone or in-person to confirm availability. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by any changes to our upholstery selection.
Alongside our extensive range of covers, the Olson is also available in specialty fabrics and leathers that offer unique features and benefits…
At an additional cost, Olson cushions can also be upgraded to include firmer cushioning, meaning that over time, your furniture will remember your unique figure and enhance the comfort of your furniture. This could be a great option for people with mobility issues, allowing you to get in and out of your furniture more comfortably.
The Olson Chair & a Half and the Sofa come with pillows, which means you can customize those as well. You can accessorize your pillows by adding an accent colour to them, as well as contrasting welt, cording or fringe. What's more, there are also 6 select accent pillow options to choose from, which will not increase the price of your furniture.
If you want to get specific, you can also request feather padding for your pillows instead of the usual foam padding.
The Olson chair and a half and both sofas come in sleeper variations. With this option, you can easily turn your living room into a sleepable guest room.
Along with the unique features of the original frames, the Olson twin, full, and queen sleepers offer overnight guests a supreme comfort quilted innerspring mattress that measures 5.5” thick, no matter the size of the frame.
The sleeper mattresses can be upgraded to include a Slumber Air mattress, which is an inflatable air mattress for extra adjustability. It can also include a firmer mattress that provides a more solid sleeping surface, similar to the firm cushion upgrade.
Finally, Olson’s wood leg finish can also be customized. Any Olson furniture item comes in one of four finish options:
In terms of cost, Olson’s products fall within the low-mid price range at La-Z-Boy.
While the cost of the Olson furniture is considered quite standard at La-Z-Boy, it is important to note that La-Z-Boy furniture is considered expensive in the market.
This cost is reflected in the quality of materials and craftsmanship of our products. With this, the investment tends to be worthwhile if you are looking for long-lasting furniture.
*All La-Z-Boy prices listed in this article are subject to change. We aim to update all cost-related articles twice per year. This article was last updated on April 4, 2025. Contact your local Ottawa, Gatineau or Kingston location by phone or in person for up-to-date pricing.

Now that you know everything about the Olson, is this the right furniture family for you?
In terms of functionality, the Olson can work well in many different-sized rooms. The apartment-size sofa is perfect for smaller spaces, while the regular sofa and chair-and-a-half combo work well in a bigger living room.
However, people with shorter than average height may not find this furniture as comfortable as those with an average height.
Lastly, the style of this furniture family is very classic. However, if you’re looking for something more slim-fitting, we recommend checking the Collins Sofa. While this furniture frame may not have a sleeper sofa upgrade, it does have one in its sectional frame.
If you are a younger family looking for something modern or contemporary to add to your home, this furniture family might not be right for you.
