Furnishing your home is a deeply personal journey, and finding the right retailer can significantly shape your style, comfort, and budget. Two names that frequently come up in Ottawa, Gatineau and Kingston are Structube and La-Z-Boy — both popular, but offering vastly different experiences.
In this article, we’ll compare these two furniture stores across several key areas — from quality, pricing, and customization, to delivery, warranty, and showroom experience — so you can confidently decide which is best for you.
In This Article…
Structube is a Canadian-owned company based in Montreal, but the majority of its furniture is manufactured overseas, mainly in China, India, and Vietnam. This global production model helps keep prices low while offering trendy, modern designs that appeal to budget-conscious shoppers.
While designs are influenced by European and Scandinavian styles, Structube does not produce its furniture in Canada. Most items are shipped flat-packed and require customer assembly. This approach keeps costs down but limits customization and can result in less durability compared to domestically made brands like La-Z-Boy.
La-Z-Boy takes pride in manufacturing its furniture, with most products for the North American market being produced in North America.
While most La-Z-Boy recliners are made in North America, the Modern Pedestal Chairs, however, are internationally manufactured, which aligns with Stressless production.

Customization can be significant for customers looking to create a personalized living space.
Structube offers very limited customization. Most items come in only a few preset colours or fabric options — often 2 to 6 choices per product.
Unlike fully custom furniture brands, Structube does not offer options like fabric mixing, cushion firmness, or modular adjustments. Items are mass-produced and ready to ship, which helps keep costs low.
This makes Structube ideal for shoppers who prioritize affordability and style, but it may not suit those seeking highly personalized pieces or design flexibility.
In contrast, La-Z-Boy offers extensive customization options, especially for upholstered furniture. With over 800 fabrics and leathers to choose from, customers can create a personalized look that fits their style.
Additionally, La-Z-Boy offers various upgrades, including cushion density, leg styles, wood finishes, nailhead trim, and reclining options with power upgrades. These customizable features come at an additional cost, but they allow for a more tailored and unique product.

Interior design services can help customers create a cohesive and stylish living space, whether they choose customizable furniture or not.
Structube does not provide interior design services. Customers shop independently through the website or in-store, with no option for consultations or layout planning.
The company previously ran a Designer Program for trade professionals, offering discounts and product previews. This was not a service for regular customers and remains suspended as of 2025.
Structube works best for self-guided shoppers. While their website offers styled room inspiration, those needing design help may prefer retailers with in-house design support.
Alternatively, La-Z-Boy provides a more hands-on approach with its complimentary interior design services. Customers can schedule an appointment or a virtual call with a La-Z-Boy interior designer to receive personalized furniture and design recommendations.
These services include a complete room design, mood board, and 3D model, allowing customers to visualize their space before purchasing.

The price of furniture is a major differentiator between Structube and La-Z-Boy.
As previously mentioned, Structube emphasizes affordability, catering to modest furniture budgets. With this, furniture offered at Structube falls within the low to mid-price range on the market.
Alternatively, the cost of La-Z-Boy products is more confined to the mid-high price range. Although La-Z-Boy may not offer lower budget options, customers experience more consistency in overall quality, comfort, and craftsmanship.

A robust warranty can provide peace of mind, ensuring the longevity of your furniture investment.
Structube provides a one-year limited warranty on most furniture. It covers manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship under normal residential use, starting from the date of delivery or pickup.
The warranty excludes wear and tear, misuse, modifications, and commercial use. Assembly errors or damages from transport after delivery are also not covered. Claims must be submitted within 14 days of noticing the issue, often with photos for proof.
Structube does not offer extended warranties or protection plans. Once furniture is assembled, it’s typically non-refundable and non-exchangeable, making the one-year policy their only coverage option.
La-Z-Boy is known for the quality and durability of its furniture, which is reflected in its warranty offerings. All La-Z-Boy furniture comes with a Limited Lifetime Warranty covering the frame, springs, and mechanical parts for life, with additional coverage for other components lasting 1-3 years. An Extended Protection Plan is available for up to five years of accidental damage at an additional cost.
Both retailers offer delivery services, but there are notable differences in their approaches and costs.
Structube offers contactless doorstep delivery across Canada, with free delivery on orders over $299 in select areas. Fees apply based on location and order size.
All items are flat-packed and require customer assembly. Delivery is drop-off only—no unpacking, assembly, or in-home placement is included.
Structube does not offer white-glove services or old furniture removal. Buyers looking for hands-on delivery may need to consider other retailers.
La-Z-Boy offers a comprehensive white glove delivery service that includes setup, assembly, and disposal of old furniture at an additional cost. Local delivery within Ottawa, Gatineau & Kingston costs $129.99, with out-of-town delivery at $169.99.
For an additional fee of $25 per furniture piece, we can assist with either moving out old furniture from different rooms or bringing it to the curb.
Additionally, we offer the option to dispose of any old furniture in a local landfill at an extra charge of $50 / per furniture seat.
