In the peaceful countryside of Carp, Ontario, Carole was in the process of building her dream home, a bright open-concept bungalow surrounded by nature and country charm. However, as construction began, Carole was worried her interior wouldn’t reflect the country chic style she had envisioned.
But who would be able to do this for her? To bring this vision to life, she entrusted the help of our talented interior designer, Zeina Badawi, from our La-Z-Boy Kanata location. Together, they curated a design that blended comfort, elegance, and natural beauty, a look Zeina describes as Urban Country.
So, how did Zeina bring Carole’s urban country bungalow to life? Let’s find out!

About the Project
Carole first visited the La-Z-Boy Kanata showroom while searching for the perfect reclining sofa. The moment she sat on the sofas in the showroom, she knew she was in the right place. While exploring her options, she also discovered La-Z-Boy’s complimentary interior design services, which allowed her to visualize her entire home in a 3D plan before construction was complete.
At the time, Carole was still in the early stages of her build. She had samples from her builder and a general sense of the aesthetic she wanted to achieve, but she wasn’t sure how to bring everything together.
“She loved the comfort of country living but wanted to add a refined, modern touch,” says Zeina. “That’s where the idea for Urban Country really came to life.”
During her first visit to the home site, Zeina drew inspiration from the kitchen finishes, which featured soft green cabinetry paired with white upper cabinets. These details became the foundation for the design palette.
“The green was so calming and earthy,” Zeina recalls. “We decided to carry that tone throughout the home to maintain harmony and a connection to the natural surroundings.”
Before...

After!

The Interior Design Process
Because Carole’s home was open concept, layout and flow were essential from the start. Zeina focused on creating seamless transitions between the living room, dining area, and kitchen, ensuring that each space had its own personality while maintaining a cohesive look.
“We wanted a design that felt fresh and welcoming but still had that country warmth,” says Zeina. “Every piece had to feel intentional and work beautifully from every angle.”
The living room became the heart of the home. Zeina chose a neutral palette of beiges and soft greens, accented by natural textures and warm wood tones. The fireplace served as the focal point, anchoring the room for both TV viewing and relaxed conversation.

Because the back of the main sofa was visible from several angles, Zeina chose furniture with a tailored silhouette that looked refined from every perspective.
“I love working in open-concept layouts,” she explains. “But with some designers, it’s easy to forget about balance. You want the furniture to feel connected but not crowded. Every line and placement matters.”
Symmetry also played a key role. Zeina used matching sofas and lamps to frame the space, while choosing an accent chair with a soft green velvet that introduced a splash of colour. This helped complement the green kitchen cabinetry as well as cement the other accents in the room.
Natural wood accents and geometric elements added just the right amount of modern flair to the overall design.
Furniture & Accessories Chosen
The project featured several signature pieces from La-Z-Boy and Canadel, chosen for their craftsmanship, comfort, and timeless appeal.
At the center of the living room were two Colby Sofas, which offered reclining comfort without the bulky look of traditional recliners. Their sleek profile kept the space feeling light and open, perfect for a home with multiple access points leading to the kitchen, office, and mudroom.

“Carole wanted reclining furniture that felt casual but elevated,” Zeina says. “The Colby checked every box.”
To complement the two sofas, Zeina selected side tables from American Drew, which featured geometric detailing that added visual interest without overpowering the space. A geometric coffee table introduced a modern element that balanced the natural tones, while a muted rug with a subtle pattern brought warmth and depth to the floor.
The dining area continued the Urban Country aesthetic with a Canadel dining set from the Core Collection. The warm wood tones created a cozy foundation, while leather dining chairs added contrast and texture.

“In open-concept homes, rugs are key to defining each area,” Zeina explains. “We used a matching rug under the dining table to tie everything together and create flow.”
For the kitchen, swivel stools (also from Canadel’s Core Collection), with patterned upholstery and wood backs, added a playful, functional touch. The organic design of the stools complemented the vertical detailing on the island and made it easy for family and guests to interact between the kitchen and living spaces.
In the entryway, Zeina selected a console buffet that offered hidden storage while keeping the space feeling open and airy. Above it, she placed a large landscape artwork that mirrored the outdoor views, adding a connection to the surrounding countryside.

End Result
When the final pieces were in place, the Carp Country Home perfectly captured the spirit of Urban Country design: comfortable, natural, and effortlessly elegant.
“The result is an inviting, lived-in space that still feels polished,” says Zeina. “It’s the perfect balance of country warmth and modern refinement.”
Carole was thrilled with the outcome. What began as a space soon became a cohesive home filled with light, texture, and personality. The combination of modern furnishings and rustic details gave her the relaxed yet sophisticated look she had imagined from the start.
“I loved watching this home come together,” says Zeina. “Every design choice reflects who Carole is and how she wants to live. That’s what makes the space feel so special.”
