Review Of La-Z-Boy's Oversized Recliners

Est. Reading Time: 6 Mins

At La-Z-Boy, recliners come in many different sizes and comfort levels. While some models are designed for smaller spaces and average-sized users, others are specifically built for customers who need more room, more support and a sturdier overall frame.

That is exactly where the La-Z-Boy Summit Series comes in.

The Summit Series includes oversized recliners designed with enhanced support systems, larger dimensions and reinforced construction. These recliners are ideal for taller individuals, broader body types or anyone who simply enjoys having more room to stretch out and relax.

To better understand how the Summit Series performs in real homes, we spoke with Yaser Alimam, Sales Consultant at La-Z-Boy Cyrville.

“A lot of customers immediately notice how supportive these recliners feel,” Yaser explains. “The extra room and taller design really make a difference for people who struggle to fit comfortably in a standard recliner.”

In this review, we will break down the Summit Series recliners, compare sizing and pricing and help you determine whether one of these oversized recliners is the right fit for your home.

Summit Series Recliner Selection

The Summit Series includes two oversized La-Z-Boy recliners: the Randell and the Redwood. Both are designed for customers who need more space and support than a standard recliner typically provides.

What makes these recliners different is their set of tall enhancements. These include a wider frame, additional seat and back springs, a heavy-duty reclining mechanism and a taller base. They also include a longer handle, which can make reclining easier for taller users or anyone who finds a standard handle harder to reach.

The Randell has a more traditional look, with plush, multi-channelled cushioning that feels soft and full. The Redwood has a cleaner, more contemporary silhouette while still offering the extra scale and support expected from the Summit Series.

Although the Astor Recliner includes some taller elements, such as a taller base and an elongated back, it does not include the full tall-enhancement package. As a result, it is not officially part of the Summit Series.

Yaser explains that these upgrades are especially important for taller customers. “People over six feet tall often say their legs finally feel fully supported in these chairs,” he says.

Summit Series Sizes & Dimensions

The Summit Series recliners are noticeably larger than La-Z-Boy's standard recliners.

Because of their oversized proportions, these chairs generally work best in larger living rooms, basements, or open-concept spaces where there is enough room for full reclining functionality.

These recliners are commonly recommended for users around 6'3" or taller, although comfort preferences can vary from person to person.

Yaser notes that some customers choose the Summit Series simply because they enjoy the spacious feel. “Not everyone buying these recliners is extremely tall,” he says. “Some people just want more room to curl up and relax comfortably.”

Below is a breakdown of the Summit Series dimensions:

Summit Series Warranty Coverage & Financing

The Summit Series is covered by La-Z-Boy’s Limited Lifetime Warranty. This warranty covers the repair or replacement of the frame, spring systems, and mechanism, given that they are quality-crafted and built for long-lasting comfort.

While still quality-crafted, other aspects of the product, such as fabrics, leather, and cushions, are not meant to last a lifetime. However, these parts are still covered by the La-Z-Boy Manufacturer’s Warranty for a specified period.

To further protect your purchase, La-Z-Boy Ottawa, Gatineau and Kingston offer an extended warranty plan at an additional cost. To learn more about the Extended Warranty Plan and if it’s right for you, take a look at this article.

Should You Purchase a Summit Series Recliner?

Pros

Cons

Oversized dimensions provide extra room and support

A larger footprint may not suit smaller rooms

Tall Enhancements improve comfort for taller users

Higher price point than standard recliners

Reinforced construction adds durability

Oversized seating may feel too large for some users

Available in both traditional and contemporary styles

Requires more clearance space for reclining

The Summit Series is a strong option for customers seeking more space, enhanced support, and long-term durability in their recliner.

One of the biggest advantages of the Summit Series is its oversized design. Customers who often feel cramped in standard recliners may immediately notice the added seat depth, taller back and roomier overall feel.

Yaser explains that many customers appreciate the extra support right away. “A lot of people say they finally feel properly supported from head to toe,” he says.

The Tall Enhancements package also helps improve durability and everyday comfort. Features like the reinforced reclining mechanism, additional springs and taller base are especially beneficial for taller users or anyone who spends long periods relaxing in their recliner.

The Summit Series also offers flexibility in style. The Randell is a better fit for customers who prefer a plush, traditional appearance, while the Redwood appeals more to shoppers seeking a cleaner, more contemporary oversized recliner.

That said, these recliners are not ideal for every home. Because of their larger proportions, they may feel too bulky in condos, apartments or smaller living rooms. Customers who prefer more compact seating may also find the Summit Series larger than necessary.

For shoppers looking for an oversized recliner with added support, durability, and spacious comfort, the Summit Series offers a practical, long-term seating solution.
