Every year, the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) partners up with Minto Communities to bring to life a Dream Home, which serves as the grand prize for the annual lottery.
Designed by local interior designer Tanner Vine and furnished by La-Z-Boy Ottawa, Gatineau and Kingston, this house comes to life with stylish, dream-worthy furniture.
By purchasing a Dream of a Lifetime lottery ticket, you'll have the chance to win $3 million in prizes, including the Minto Dream Home. Proceeds will support high-priority needs at the children’s hospital.
Even though only one lucky individual will win the grand prize, many products are featured inside the home that can be purchased at any of our La-Z-Boy Ottawa, Gatineau & Kingston Showrooms.

This Year's Dream Home: The Sterling
Before we dive into this year’s home in detail, let’s learn a little bit about the house itself and the inspiration that led to this beautiful home.
Firstly, This Year’s Dream Home is called The Sterling.
Situated right next to the previous dream home, this house is located in Mahogany, Manotick, at 808 Skysail Place. With a 5,360 square-foot floor plan, The Sterling is currently situated beside a protected green space and a single lot.
Based on 1920s art deco-style design, with many aspects covering geometric patterns and earth tones, the home features 4 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms.
The dream home also features unique silhouettes and artwork in every corner, with a working bar in the basement, full amenities on the main and second floor for intergenerational families, and a hidden speakeasy.
About Interior Designer Tanner Vine
Tanner Vine is the designer for this year’s Dream Home. With over 20 years of experience, he brings a wealth of expertise to the project.
When it comes to the interior design of the Dream Home, Tanner notes that the home's interior takes huge inspiration from the New York 1920s art deco era.
“I tried to recreate the New York art deco-inspired era from the 1920s, but with a contemporary twist,” he says.
As you walk through the home, you will notice the clean lines, geometric elegance, and stunning art from the flooring to the wallpaper to the stone pillars.

Bringing to life Tanner’s design is La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries. Since the very first Minto Dream Home, La-Z-Boy has helped furnish the home and is honoured to do so for its 25th silver anniversary.
Being a local family-owned branch, La-Z-Boy Ottawa, Gatineau & Kingston is always proud to give back to the Eastern Ontario community through this event.
Cecile Panet-Raymond, La-Z-Boy’s merchandising director, has been helping to furnish the Minto Dream Home for 15 years. For the second time, she and Tanner partnered up to choose the products you can see within the house.
To ensure the design of the furniture matched the overall aesthetic of the home, Cecile and Tanner extensively customized La-Z-Boy’s furniture selections.

Front Entrance & Den
Stepping inside The Sterling, you’ll immediately see the home in its grandeur. The grand entrance already features incredible detailing and really makes a first impression on the already impressive architecture that you’ll see throughout the house.
Not only does the two-toned geometric-patterned floor create an interesting attention grabber, but the interior cobblestone wall boasts a head-to-toe appearance. Tanner also notes that there are floor pot lights that can light up the entire wall when it is dark outside.
The office interior is separated from the front entrance by two pocket French doors, which hold a very generous space for anyone to enjoy working from home or just catching up on personal work and hobbies.
Belleza Mirror
Guests are immediately welcomed into the home by this stunning brass-framed antique Belleza Mirror, which kicks off the art deco-inspired theme very well.

Living Room, Kitchen & Dining Room
Stepping into the grand living room from the divided hallway, you’ll notice that this year’s Minto Dream Home is a little bit more closed off, unlike other years. However, the Living room, dining room and kitchen areas are all still open concepts within this design.
In the main living area, you’ll notice the elongated high ceiling that completely opens up the space, the impressive linear fireplace that measures almost five feet, as well as the comfortable furniture that is supplied, of course, by La-Z-Boy.
You’ll also notice the architectural detailing within the open concept space, specifically within the kitchen, where the curved Art Deco-style design really takes form. From the mosaic floor pattern to the soft and relaxed countertops with a double bull-nosed edge, this area screams symmetry with curves.
The dining space is also pristine in style, with the exquisite dining table and chairs from Canadel, as well as the windows displaying the outdoors on all three sides.
Emric Sectional
The main character of this room is the Emric Sectional, which was also featured as the Sofa frame in last year’s Minto Dream Home. The Emric Sectional is the perfect simple Sectional with exceptional comfort and a clean look that holds one long cushion on each side of the frame.

Main Floor Primary Bedroom
You might be thinking, The primary bedroom is on the first floor? Yes, but there is also a second primary bedroom on the second floor, which we will showcase in a little bit.
This year’s Minto Dream Home is built with multigenerational and accessibility living in mind. This means that there are subtle details throughout the first floor that you’ll see that can comfortably house a person without needing the second floor entirely.
This is shown with a first-floor laundry room, lowered light switches and a comfortable and spacious walk-in shower with zero elevation for ease of use.
Karis King Bed
The Karis King Bed is the only bedframe in the home furnished by La-Z-Boy, from our subsidiary, Kincaid. This king-size bed is positioned in the middle of the room, and features dark brown wood finished detailing, as well as a cream upholstered fabric on the headboard to match the aesthetic of the home.

Upstairs Loft
Before you reach the upstairs hallway, it is important to note the two-toned main floor and the upstairs flooring. These floors were intentionally a different colour to create contrast within the lower and upper sections of the home.
Moving on to the upstairs, you will notice some free space that is complemented by a playful area rug. This loft's second floor overlooks the open concept living room, kitchen and dining areas.
Turning over to the loft area, this second living space features another unobstructed view of the greenspace next to the home, which helps create a relaxing space to lounge for yourself, guests or children.

The Extra-Long Kirby Sofa is featured as the main seating area for this section of the home. This Kirby Sofa features a laid-back and sophisticated style in soft cream neutral fabric, which matches the rest of the home very nicely.

Second Floor Primary Ensuite

Also known as the kids' bedroom, this is smaller than the other bedrooms, but features playful styling in the decor and the custom wallpaper above the bed.
Not only is the playful wallpaper pronounced inside the custom arched frame, but the indigenous dot print pattern complements the velvet headboard and the rest of the space really well.
Lenox Seneca Nightstands
Scattered throughout the room is the American Drew Lenox Collection, which includes the two nightstands that sit on either side of the double bed. These Seneca Nightstands feature three drawers with the bottom one being cedar-lined, as well as two outlet plugs and a USB port for charging electronics.

This fourth and final bedroom is where the art deco-inspired design thrives best out of all the bedrooms, according to Tanner. What separates this bedroom from the rest is the theatrical components. This includes the hanging draperies along the bedframe, and the fudge colour-drenched walls.

This Hammary three-drawer dresser doesn’t look like a dresser at first glance. But when pulling the side of the frame outwards, you’ll reveal the storage space. This is a great accent chest for any bedroom that’s looking to add a bit more style, which this bedroom is all about!

Whether you’re hosting a game night with friends, a cozy movie night with the family, or a regular sit-down catch-up, you have everything you need in this space.
For personal use, the home gym is at the end of the basement, which features a stair master, loose weights, a treadmill, a full body machine and two TVs for added convenience.
