But what about older furniture designs and styles of the past? Do they get lost forever, staying tucked away in the void of our memories never to be seen again?

Well, not necessarily. Some older styles of furniture actually come back in style due to people rediscovering them. This is especially true when looking at some furniture families at La-Z-Boy.

The Mackenzie furniture family, for example, shows a very traditional design with its look. Elaina Sollychin and Tim Young, design consultants from La-Z-Boy Hunt Club, both tell us that the Mackenzie is “a perfect blend of old and new styles coming together.”

Mackenzie Furniture Family (Available Furniture Options)

The Mackenzie furniture family comes in four furniture frames: a chair, a loveseat, a sofa, and a matching ottoman.

Mackenzie Chair

The Mackenzie Chair delivers just the right amount of individualized comfort for any stationary chair at La-Z-Boy. The ComfortCore cushions offer great convenience for any long or short sit.

Mackenzie Loveseat

Instead of having one comfortable Mackenzie seat, you can always go for a two-seat option like the Mackenzie Loveseat. 

With this furniture frame, you can share your comfort by snuggling up to that special someone. The fabric option also offers two 20” accent pillows.

Mackenzie Sofa

With the three-seated Mackenzie Sofa, you can enjoy a family-friendly seating arrangement for any leisurely group activity. The fabric option also offers two 20” accent pillows, same as the loveseat.

Mackenzie Ottoman

Lastly, the Mackenzie Ottoman complements any of the three aforementioned furniture frames. You can either use this ottoman to kick up your feet or as an extra seat in the house if you have guests over.

Unique Features

All Mackenzie furniture frames each share the same unique features. 

The Mackenzie furniture family is described as timeless and on-trend, featuring a sophisticated look and blends easily with any existing living room pieces. 

This traditional furniture has rolled, pleated arms, foam back, and ComfortCore cushions that deliver just the right amount of comfort and support for a short or long sit.

The look is topped off with decorative wood legs that add the perfect touch of tradition to an already contemporary piece.

Elaina says that this furniture family is arguably one of the most traditional furniture options that La-Z-Boy has to offer. “Most of the traditional look comes from Mackenzie’s big rounded arms,” she says.

She also says that Mackenzie’s cushions are definitely more firm than other furniture cushions, but still offer the same amount of comfort as other furniture products. Elaina says, “it’s not too firm and it’s not too soft, which makes it a good in between.”

Finally, it is important to note that the Mackenzie furniture is built with La-Z-Boy’s Premier Construction. Simply put, Premier Construction includes quality-crafted frames padded to enhance the style’s design lines, among other features of quality craftsmanship. 

Sizes & Dimensions

It is important to consider the size of the Mackenzie furniture in your home. 

Measuring your room along with considering the specific dimensions of the Mackenzie will ensure that your desired furniture piece will fit perfectly in your space. 

Elaina and Tim explain that these products are better suited for individuals with a height of 5'6" and under. What’s more, the cushions are very shallow, which is probably why it requires someone with an average to smaller scale to sit comfortably on these furniture seats.

While your height can be a considerable factor, it is important to note that height guidelines are NOT set in stone. The way you sit in a furniture item can drastically affect how someone might find a seat comfortable.

All upholstery furniture at La-Z-Boy is customizable. Give the Mackenzie furniture family your own personal touch by choosing from a range of options and upgrades.

It is important to remember that by selecting any options and upgrades in this section, the cost of any Mackenzie product is subject to increase.

Fabric & Leather Options

At La-Z-Boy, the option to choose your own fabric is seemingly endless. In fact, La-Z-Boy has over 800 upholstery covers to personalize your furniture items, including the Mackenzie.  

Keep in mind that many of these fabric and leather options are considered upgrades and come at an additional cost.

Should you want to maintain the base price of your Mackenzie, La-Z-Boy offers 8 select fabrics to choose from. Elaina says that most of them are in beige, brown, or grey colours, but are unique nonetheless.

Moreover, leather options, beyond the select leather selection, will always increase the overall cost.  Ultimately, the choice of choosing fabric or leather is up to you, if you’re willing to spend extra cash on leather products.

Queen Sleep Sofa Upgrade

The Mackenzie Sofa can be upgraded to a queen sleeper sofa. With the Mackenzie Supreme-Comfort Queen Sleep Sofa, you can turn any living room into a guest room. 

Along with the unique features of the original sofa, the Mackenzie queen sleeper offers overnight guests a queen-size supreme comfort quilted innerspring mattress that measures 5.5” thick.

The sleeper mattresses can be upgraded to include either a Slumber Air mattress, which is an inflatable air mattress for extra adjustability, or a firmer mattress that provides a more solid sleeping surface, similar to the firm cushion upgrade.

Pillow Options

Mackenzie come with pillows, which means you can customize those as well. You can accessorize your pillows by adding an accent colour to them, as well as contrasting welt, cording or fringe. Luckily for you, the Kennedy furniture family also includes 3 additional select accent pillow options, meaning those will not affect your price.

If you want to get specific, you can also request feather padding for your pillows instead of the usual foam padding.

Finish Options

Lastly, Mackenzie’s wood leg finish can be customized as well. Any Mackenzie furniture item can come in one of four finish options:

• Mahogany (Base Price)
• Coffee (Additional Cost)

Cost

In terms of cost, Mackenzie’s products fall within the mid-price range at La-Z-Boy. 

While the cost of the Mackenzie furniture is considered quite standard at La-Z-Boy, it is important to note that La-Z-Boy furniture is considered expensive in the market. 

This cost is reflected in the quality of materials and craftsmanship of our products. With this, the investment tends to be worthwhile if you are looking for long-lasting furniture.

Warranty

The Mackenzie furniture family is covered by La-Z-Boy’s Limited Lifetime Warranty, which covers the repair or replacement of the frame, spring systems, and the mechanism, given that they are quality-crafted and built for long-lasting comfort.

While still quality-crafted, other aspects of the product, such as fabrics, leather, and cushion, are not meant to last a lifetime. However, these parts are still covered by the La-Z-Boy Manufacturer’s Warranty for a given time.

Is the Mackenzie Furniture Family Right For You?

Now that you know everything you need to know about the Mackenzie furniture family, is it the right furniture for you?

When making this decision, you will want to consider Mackenzie's cost, functionality, and style.

Tim says that he has sold many Mackenzie furniture items during his time working with La-Z-Boy, which means a lot of different people like the Mackenzie. 

However, one particular demographic he sees wanting this furniture family more are older individuals. “This is probably because of the old-timey look that the Mackenzie has,” he says.

Tim also says that our older clientele also likes the Mackenzie for its tight back and firm seat cushions, because it offers a lot of support for them.

With that being said, however, there is a balancing act with Mackenzie’s comfortability. Because this furniture family sits taller individuals more comfortably, some older people might not hit that height category. After all, the average height of a person shortens with age and most people have an average height of 5’9”. 

So, with that in mind, it is up to you to decide if this furniture frame is right for someone older, or for someone who is taller.
