Est. Reading Time: 11 Mins

For almost a century, La-Z-Boy has created numerous recliners, keeping many families happy and comfortable. From big chairs to small chairs, and anywhere in between, our recliners come in all shapes and sizes.

However, with so many to choose from, there is bound to be a couple that share similarities. After all, there are only so many ways you can design a recliner without steering too much away from its original purpose.

An example of two similar recliners from our selection is the Finley and the Lennon. Although the Finley has cemented itself as a best-selling recliner, The Lennon is an up-and-coming product that has only been around for the good part of a year.

Elaina Sollychin, a design consultant at La-Z-Boy Hunt Club, tells us, “you can see that they’re both slim-looking recliners, but they do have differences that not everyone can tell right off the bat.”

So that begs the question, how similar or different are these two recliners? And more importantly, which one do you think is better for you? Read on to find out more about these two recliners and why one might speak more to you.

Unique Features

First, to better understand the two frames, let’s take a look at some similarities and differences.

Similarities

Finley ImageA key similarity between the Finley and the Lennon recliners lies in their size and shape. Both models share a slim and compact design, making them an ideal choice for smaller spaces. Their relatively narrow width ensures a space-efficient fit without compromising on comfort and functionality.

Elaina raises a valid point regarding recliners and their suitability for small spaces. While recliners are generally associated with bulkier designs, the Finley and Lennon recliners stand out by offering a more streamlined appearance.

Although they are slightly larger than a stationary chair, their compactness sets them apart from traditional recliners.

To learn more about Recliners for Small Spaces, take a look at this article.

Lennon ImageSome may say that the Lennon appears smaller than the Finley when in reality, they both have the same width and height. “The seat depth on the Lennon is shallow by an inch, but other than that, both frames have the same dimensions,” she says.

The visual perception of the Lennon recliner appearing smaller is attributed to the fact that the back of its frame is not exposed, unlike the Finley recliner. This design element gives the Lennon a sleek and downsized appearance, which aligns with the preferences of customers seeking a more contemporary and compact look.

Lastly, the other main similarity is that both recliners come in rocking and wall recliners, as well as available in larger products, such as a loveseat and a sofa.

Differences

Moving onto the other side of the coin, some of the key differences rely on the way it looks and the seats themselves.

As mentioned before, both recliners look visually different–the Finley has a flat back while the Lennon has separations within its cushions. This might appeal to those looking for more support in their head and lumbar region.

However, a significant difference between both frames is the seating height, where the Lennon recliner sits closer to the ground compared to the Finley.“Some might not realize it because it’s pretty close in shape, but Lennon is definitely at a shorter scale,” she says.

What’s more, the styles of both frames are also different. Even though they both have a slim and modern look to them, the Lennon has more contemporary elements, because of its slightly curved arms. “The curved arms might also be a reason why people may think it’s smaller,” says Elaina.

Lastly, the Finley comes as a gliding recliner, whereas the Lennon only has rocking and wall reclining options. To learn more about the difference between a Rocking Recliner vs. a Gliding Recliner, take a look at this article.

Sizes & Dimensions

As previously mentioned, both the Finley and Lennon recliners offer a smaller footprint compared to traditional recliners, making them ideal for small spaces. However, it's important to note that they are equally suitable for larger living areas. This versatility stems from the fact that both models belong to the wall-hugger furniture category.

Wall-hugger recliners are specifically designed to maximize space efficiency by allowing them to be placed close to the wall without requiring significant clearance for reclining.

Before considering either frame, don’t forget to measure your space

The Finley and Lennon are better suited for average to taller users, specifically those between the heights of 5’4” and 6’2”.

While your height can be a considerable factor, it is important to note that height guidelines are NOT set in stone. The way you sit in a furniture item can drastically affect how someone might find a seat comfortable.

This is why we highly recommended coming in for a sit test to see if the Finley or the Lennon is comfortable for your body type. To learn more, take a look at How to Find a Recliner That is The Best Fit For You.

In addition to the cover options mentioned above, the Finley and the Lennon are offered in specialty fabrics with unique features and benefits …

Cushions Upgrade

At an additional cost, Finley and Lennon’s cushions can also be upgraded to include firmer cushioning, meaning over time, your furniture will remember your unique figure and enhance the comfort of your furniture. This could be a great option for people with mobility issues, allowing you to get in and out of your furniture more comfortably.

For more information on whether this upgrade is right for you, view our Recliner Furniture Collection catalogue.

Handle Options

To add more style to your La-Z-Boy manual recliner, you have the option to customize the length and material of the convenient reclining handle.

At an extra cost, you can opt to elongate the handle if you find it too short for your comfort. Additionally, you can choose from a variety of materials for the handle, including wooden, brushed nickel, or matte black. The chrome handle can also be elongated, matching the wooden one in size.

What’s more, for all left-handed users, you can change your handle from the standard right side to the left. This also comes at an additional cost.

Optional Swivel Base

If you're interested, both rocking recliners from the Finley and Lennon are available with a swivel base for an extra cost. La-Z-Boy's swivel bases provide a 360-degree rotation, allowing you to easily turn and face any direction.

You can also upgrade your swivel base into a power swivel recliner, which can recline at the touch of a button. The power swivel base, however, only rotates 165 degrees to prevent the power cord from getting tangled within the furniture frame.

To learn more about our Swivel Chair options, check out our list of Swivel Accent Chairs.

Power Upgrade with Adjustable Headrest

You can upgrade both recliners to power.

Unlike manual furniture that uses a handle or latch, power recliners come with a control panel or a wireless remote for easy reclining at the touch of a button. You can also adjust the headrest support with this convenient feature.

The adjustable headrest allows you to move the head of the recliner from 0-55 degrees, giving you more range of motion with your reclining positions.

What’s more, the recliners have USB ports next to the control panels to charge your electronic devices and two memory settings that allow you to save any of your favourite relaxing positions. This way, you can easily recline back to the position you favour quickly and accurately.

All power upgrades can be cordless, thanks to our rechargeable battery pack. With this, you can place your power recliners anywhere without worrying about plugging them into an electrical outlet.

Adjustable Lumbar Support

The Finley and Lennon can also be upgraded to include adjustable lumbar support for an additional cost when choosing the power option.

Like the headrest feature, you can control the lower lumbar area of your recliner with the wireless remote. In this case, the lumbar support can expand 3 inches out or deflate to perfectly match the unique curvature of your lumbar spine.

To help you decide if the headrest & lumbar upgrade is right for you, check out the Review of La-Z-Boy Power Recliners with the Headrest & Lumbar Feature.

Cost

In terms of cost, both the Finley and Lennon recliners fall within the mid-high price range at La-Z-Boy.

With that being said, the Finley recliner is slightly more expensive than the Lennon recliner options, as shown in the table below.

It is also important to note that La-Z-Boy furniture is considered more expensive in the market.

The cost of all La-Z-Boy products, including the Finley and Lennon, is reflected in the quality of materials and craftsmanship. With this, the investment tends to be worthwhile if you are looking for long-lasting furniture.

Finley vs. Lennon: Which One is Right For You?

After reading everything you need to know about the Finley and Lennon, you may have already made your buying decision based on the info above. However, there might still be some things you're a little unsure of.

To help you understand which recliner might be right for you, let’s take a look at your budget, functionality and overall style.

As mentioned before, the price of these recliners varies slightly, with the Finley having a more expensive bill than the Lennon. The difference between these furniture products is around $100, which is not too much of a difference compared to other La-Z-Boy products.

At La-Z-Boy, we know how expensive our products can be, which is why we know we are not meant for everyone. However, with any high-quality purchase, our products are known to be an investment.

So, if you’re looking for furniture products that will last a long time, it might be worth spending a little bit more initially, so you don’t have to spend more on a new furniture item sooner than you think.

In terms of functionality and style in a space, the Finley and Lennon are both wall recliners, meaning they are good at maximizing empty space. However, Elaina says that she recommends the Finley to couples who love sharing their furniture pieces.

“Because the Finley is a very plain look and shape, it appeals to both men and women in many settings,” she says. She also mentions that since the Finley is so versatile in style, it can work in a lot more places than its contemporary counterpart.

That being said, the Lennon might be more enjoyable to a younger audience than the Finley, due to its contemporary edge. However, older individuals might appreciate Lennon’s channelled cushions, which provide more back support.

“It all depends on what speaks to you more–do you rely more on style or comfort?” Elaina says.
