La-Z-Boy has been around for almost a century! In fact, La-Z-Boy has become synonymous with recliners.
If you know a thing or two about La-Z-Boy recliners, you know that they are known for comfort and quality. You may also associate La-Z-Boy recliners with a high price tag … and you aren’t wrong!
So, why are La-Z-Boy recliners so expensive? This article will get to the bottom of it by outlining the true value of La-Z-Boy recliners in depth.
In This Article…
First and foremost, the materials and construction used to make La-Z-Boy recliners is what sets our product apart from other recliners on the market … resulting in a higher price tag.
The comfort and longevity are because La-Z-Boy uses good-quality materials and unique construction methods that result in a very comfortable and durable chair.
These high-quality materials include anything from the reclining mechanism to the wooden framing and the foam padding used to create these recliners.
La-Z-Boy’s foam consists of contoured-cut polyurethane high-resilience foam, which is designed to easily bend and mould into a reclining shape. The foam used also includes a greater level of comfort, an extended lifespan, and a more sharp and full appearance.
The wood that La-Z-Boy uses is also unique in the sense that it is specifically designed for recliners. OSB is the primary wood material used and has many benefits, including superior strength, outperforming plywood, and no possibility of warping or separating.

La-Z-Boy also uses Premier Construction on our stationary and motion furniture line, which you can learn more about in this article.
Another reason why La-Z-Boy recliners are costly is that La-Z-Boy manufactures its own furniture items. This means that La-Z-Boy materials are independently made from our own materials, and La-Z-Boy products are not outsourced from other suppliers.
Finally, and most importantly, La-Z-Boy has also patented its own reclining mechanism specifically for La-Z-Boy furniture, which is why our recliners may feel and function differently than other recliners in the market.

Rocking recliners provide a smooth and graceful rocking motion when not in a reclined position. These recliners are some of the less expensive options offered at La-Z-Boy.
Wall recliners hug the wall, allowing minimal space between the wall and the recliner to fully recline. Most recliners need at least 9” of distance to fully recline but a wall recliner only needs 6” of space, which can make a difference if you live in a Small Space.
Wall Recliners will be more expensive than rocking recliners due to the different reclining mechanisms needed to make this recliner. You can learn more about the comparison between Rocking Recliners vs. Wall Recliners with this article.
Similar to Rocking Recliners, Gliding Recliners also move in a smooth and graceful motion while not in a reclined position. Instead of rocking in an arch formation like the rocking recliner, a gliding recliner glides in a straight line. They are also similar in price compared to rocking recliners.
Gliding recliners are not to be confused with swivel chairs at La-Z-Boy. You can learn more about the difference between Swivel Chairs and Gliding Chairs by reading this article.
High-Leg Reclining Chairs are another unique reclining chair because they appear as stationary chairs but have the secret ability to recline. Simply push back on the arms of the chair to enjoy two reclining positions.
Depending on the frame, High-Leg Recliners at La-Z-Boy are less expensive than other recliners. This is because they are minimalistic in their design and appearance.

The Duo Collection is similar to our High-Leg Recliners. These furniture pieces look stationary, but, in reality, they are recliners as well.
The Duo collection recliners are all power recliners. This means that they are all more expensive since they have an automatic feature and, therefore, a more complex mechanism.
The Duo Collection only has three furniture families, including the Bennett, the Colby, and the Edie.
Lift Recliners feature a handheld remote that allows you to sit, stand, or fully recline at the touch of a button. Power lift recliners also feature a power tilt and independent back and legrest motion.
Lift recliners are one of the most cost-heavy recliners at La-Z-Boy due to their capabilities and their extra materials.

Another factor that explains the high cost is the fact that La-Z-Boy recliners are completely customizable. Each option and upgrade will further increase the cost of a La-Z-Boy recliner.
Recliners at La-Z-Boy can either be covered in a fabric or leather cover. The chosen upholstery cover will affect the overall cost of the recliner chair, especially if you decide to upgrade to a specialty fabric which is listed below.
As for leather upholstery, any leather selection will increase the cost of your furniture.
La-Z-Boy also has a wide selection of leather, recycled leather, and specialty leather options, which you can learn more about in our Leather Selections article.
Recliner seat cushions can also be upgraded to include firmer cushioning, meaning over time, your furniture will remember your unique figure and enhance the comfort of your furniture.
The price increase for this upgrade is $150.

Adjust the headrest with a power tilt to cradle your head and neck for the perfect reclining experience. Adjustable lumbar support helps inflate the lower back area of the frame to help with any additional support.
The price increase for this upgrade is around $200-$400, depending on the furniture frame.

Heat & massage includes two heat settings and three massage speeds. PowerReclineXR® is also included in this upgrade, which lets the user experience full reclining comfort in any position, thanks to an independently operating back and legrest.
The price increase for this upgrade is around $200-$400, depending on the furniture frame.

With high-leg recliners and recliners from the Duo Collection, there is an option to customize the wooden leg finish colour.

The price increase for wood leg finishes other than Brown Mahogany will be $70.
